Leadership & community
Keeping a community
connected and moving.
President, Nigerian Sociological & Anthropological Students’ Association
Approximately 800 students · 11-member executive team
As NSASA President, I represented a community of approximately 800 students and coordinated 10 executive leads within an 11-member team. My focus was keeping people aligned, responding to student needs and delivering the association’s major activities throughout the tenure.
CHALLENGE
Funding was a recurring constraint. At the same time, we needed to sustain student participation and make association activities feel inclusive and relevant.
We combined sponsorship outreach, alumni support, donations and available association funds. I kept committees moving through regular follow-ups, delegated responsibilities and maintained communication between students, executives and stakeholders.
MY CONTRIBUTION
- Set direction for major association events and coordinated executive and committee follow-ups.
- Served as a point of contact for students and executives, responding to concerns and requests.
- Supported fundraising and sponsorship efforts and maintained relationships with alumni and other stakeholders.
- Helped the team deliver all six major association events across the tenure.
THE PROGRAMME
- Freshers Orientation
- HOD Games
- HOD Games After Party
- Explore Conference
- Department Week
- Dinner & Awards Night

RESULTS
All six major events were delivered. Dinner & Awards Night welcomed approximately 250 attendees, with stronger-than-usual participation from IC students—a meaningful step towards a more inclusive association experience.
WHAT I LEARNED
Leadership depends on direction, trust, delegation and follow-up. Keeping a team aligned meant giving people ownership while staying available to help the work move forward.
