Event planning & coordination · 2026
Five days. One
graduating community.
Head of Final Year Week Committee
SOSSA × COMMSA · Planning: October 2025–July 2026 · Event: 6–10 July 2026
I led a 22-member committee to deliver a five-day faculty-wide celebration for more than 1,000 final-year students across SOSSA and COMMSA. From the first planning meeting to the final setup, my work connected the people, logistics and decisions behind the experience.
CHALLENGE
Securing approval for our preferred venues proved difficult. With several activities to deliver across five days, changes to the spaces also meant changes to the plan.
I helped identify alternative spaces, adjusted the programme arrangements and kept the committee and student community informed so the week could move forward.
MY CONTRIBUTION
- Built the overall project plan and timeline, assigned responsibilities and supervised subcommittees.
- Led committee meetings and follow-ups, coordinating with faculty and departmental leadership.
- Managed vendor and supplier coordination, supported sponsorship and budgeting, and personally sourced items when needed.
- Kept students informed throughout planning and supported setup and on-ground execution across the week.
THE PROGRAMME
- Day 01 · Corporate Day
- Day 02 · Denim Day

RESULTS
More than 1,000 students participated across both associations. Owambe Day exceeded the expected turnout, and the grand finale became a standout moment. Positive feedback and interest in another event reflected the community’s response to the week.
WHAT I LEARNED
Organisation gives a project structure; flexibility keeps it moving. I learned to adjust the route while staying focused on the experience we wanted students to have.
